Work from Home – Motivation

Having your own ‘money making online’ machine which works 24/7 is an appealing prospect – especially once it is up and running generating cash for you while you sleep. The down side is that you will have to build the thing first and keep on top of it in order to keep it going and bringing in customers.

If you choose to work from home either as a full time or a part time business you will have to set aside some time, some space and be self motivated since no-one but you will tell you when you should be working! This can be a good and a bad thing. Essentially, you are in charge of your own destiny. However, you will need to keep moving your business forward and developing yourself as you go or your business will either grind to a halt or worst still go backwards.

This is where goal setting comes in. Without goals you will find yourself like a rudderless ship floating in the ocean. You need to set goals when working for yourself since you are the driving force behind the business. Once you have achieved your first target you need to set another and then another, forever pushing forward to more worthwhile and lofty goals.

Keep in mind when setting these goals what your primary objective is. It is easy to get lost in the details and forget the primary objective of a business. Yes, you want to make money and an online business also gives you time freedom to choose when and where you want to work. You must work at it though in order to also have the financial freedom to do things with that time.

Also ‘money’ as a goal in itself is not always enough to motivate everyone. Businesses are often driven by an ethos or an ideal. Businesses which succeed offer ‘value’ and visitors can often discern between owners who provide that value and those simply out for the ‘quick buck’!

Keeping motivated towards your longer term goals is an important factor in having an online business. Working alone can be a challenge and you need to keep sight of your longer term objectives in order to keep your motivation high. Set short, medium and long term goals so that you can pave your way towards your success starting from an action which you can do immediately. This gives you the power to begin a long journey towards your longer term and most lofty goals beginning with a single step. As the saying goes ‘even a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step’.
